Bridging photonics research and real-world optical systems
The field-deployed SDM testbed has enabled a series of pioneering demonstrations, carried out with academic and industrial partners worldwide. Our main lines of research:
Long-haul SDM transmission
MIMO transmission over coupled-core multi-core fibers in recirculating-loop configurations, with spans exceeding 100 km of equivalent reach.
Real-time DSP & networking
Real-time digital signal processing experiments, SDN-controlled probabilistic shaping, and meshed spatial-super-channel networking.
Quantum communications
Quantum key distribution over deployed multi-core fibers, integrated with high-throughput classical traffic.
Amplification & propagation
Raman amplification in coupled-core fibers and fundamental studies of light propagation in SDM media under field conditions.
Sensing & synchronization
Distributed fiber sensing, optical clock dissemination, and interferometric measurements in the thermally stable tunnel ring.
Wideband transmission
Multi-band (C+L+U) transmission experiments over unrepeatered links, extending capacity beyond the conventional bands.
Results from these activities are documented in our publications.
